What to do for Valentines Day in Porto
There’s lots of ideas for those on a budget and those who want to splash a little more cash.
Serralves Foundation* is a Contemporary Art Museum, a Park and a Villa. All in a Modernism and Art Deco architecture and design style Álvaro Siza Vieira. Serralves is now the most visited museum in Portugal.
Casa Da Arquitectura* is located right next to our beach at Matosinhos. It is currently the only entity in Portugal exclusively dedicated to promoting the celebration of Architecture.
Centro Português de Fotografia is the Portuguese Center of Photography. Located in the center of Porto, close to Clérigos Tower, the CPF (free entry to general exhibits) is open every day from 10 – 19:00.
Hot 5 Jazz Club is a Surfivor Family Favorite.
Casa Da Musica* is a must visit for classical music and architecture lovers.
Fado is the traditional music of Portugal, and live Fado venues can be found all around Porto. Our top recommendation is Fado Na Baixa.
For those who are interested in a more current sound, Hard Club is a killer venue.
There’s no shortage of amazing and affordable wine in Porto. The Douro Valley is a Portuguese wine region around the Douro River, located upstream from Porto. The region has Portugal’s highest wine classification as a Denominação de Origem Controlada (DOC). The region is associated primarily with Port wine production but the Douro produces just as much table wine (non-fortified wines) as it does fortified wine.
Porto is the home of Port Wine. A top option is to explore the traditional Port Wine Caves dotted alongside the historic riverside in Porto. There you can take a tour of the caves and taste the Ruby, Tawny and White varieties.
Vinho Tinto (red wine) is a Surfivor Family favourite. Impromptu wine tastings around our camp tables are not uncommon because you can pick up a great bottle of Vinho Tinto for under €4.
Vinho Verde literally means “green wine,” but translates as “young wine”. Vinhos Verdes, from the North Portugal Minho Region, are light and fresh. They go great with local fish or seafood.
Nothing says love like a… Francesinha??! If a meat feast is the way to your heart, try the Francesinha famous Santiago.
For italian food in a romantic setting with beautiful riverside view, our top recommendation is Restaurante Casa D’oro.
For you vegetarians, Suribachi and daTerra do incredible vegetarian/vegan buffets.
If you’d like a more central location with traditional Portuguese food (with a modern twist), Tapabento is an excellent option. But it is popular, so be sure to make a reservation in advance.
