March 25 – April 1 is OPENING WEEK in Surfivor Esmoriz!!!

For such a small town, there is a lot to do apart from surf your heart out. To stoke your apetite, here are a few of our local favourite activities, restaurants and nightlife vibes on offer this season…

Our Surf House Esmoriz is on the beach, the longest stretch of beach between two piers along our coast. Every year we get a few different sandbanks that work to suit all surf levels. And when the conditions are good we are able to walk right down to our favourite surf spots. Our beach front surf camp also offers us excellent access for beach activities like volleyball, sunbathing and beach beers or BBQs at sunset.

Green Wave Chasers

This year our GREEN WAVE CHASERS WEEKS will be APRIL 01 – 08 and APRIL 15 – 22. Our GREEN WAVE CHASERS course is for surfers who want to improve the ability to better select waves and position in the line up, pop up faster and on steeper green waves and carve on the wave face. This will be a week to hone your techniques and get you riding the best waves available in North Portugal. For more info, click here.

Esmoriz is an incredible location for athletes and has a very active local community. Running, cycling, football, volleyball and surfing, of course, are the most popular activities.

Lagoon Boardwalk (NEW!)

The new Lagoon Park right next to our surf house in Esmoriz is a great way to explore other activities such as SUP, cycling, running and nature photography. The community loves this boardwalk, but it’s rarely crowded. A beautiful circuit run around the lagoon takes around 25 minutes. It’s also possible to follow the boardwalk up the coast to Espinho, and even all the way to Porto!

Maceda Forest & Buçaquinho Park

Just south of Esmoriz is Maceda Forest with an excellent cycle path through forest which hugs the coastline all the way to Furadouro. Cycling at a moderate pace takes around an hour from Esmoriz to Furadouro. The path breaks off onto dirt tracks that lead straight to a beautiful and remote protected coastline. Between Esmoriz and Maceda Forest you can also find Buçaquinho park. This beautiful park has some stunning sculptural features and well maintained paths and ponds. Great for young kids, and short runs or romantic strolls. Pack a picnic and go exploring!

Surfivor Surf Camp offers Yoga lessons 3 times a week during the High Season, June – September. This is included with your Surf Camp Package. Our Yoga lessons are taught by local professionals who’ve been teaching Yoga and Pilates for years. The style is a more mello Hatha and Flow style of Yoga, to help stretch those muscles and complement our surf course.

Esmoriz has a surprising number of great restaurants, and a few minimarkets in case you prefer to cook at camp. Here are just a few of our ‘don’t miss’ places to eat during your stay…

Authentic fish and seafood restaurant is a bit of a walk from town, but worth it! We often take groups and order their most popular dishes, and Vinho Verde, so everyone can try. Get appetizers, salad, mains, dessert, coffee and wine for well under €20.

‘The Bakery’

The best place for lunch, or a post surf sugar hit. The Bakery has an extensive selection of Portuguese cakes and pastries, including the most authentic Pastel de Nata. They also have a great summer menu which gives a few good salad and sandwich options for vegetarians.

Nicolau’s Bifanas

Nicolau’s Food Truck has been in and around Esmoriz for 40 years. He’s reknowned all over Portugal, and is likely the first and best established food truck in the country. On most nights you’ll find the man himself, Nicolau, serving Bifana’s, Burgers, Hotdogs and Veggiedogs from 6pm until 6am.

There’s a lot going on around Esmoriz and Porto every summer. Don’t forget to check out our Packs 2018 for dates and info on the main events this year. Our favourites are São João in Porto, Arraial Da Barrinha Street Festival in Esmoriz, and the Medieval Journey in Santa Maria Da Feira.

Uncle Joes

The best bar in town serves stunning Mojitos and Caiparinhas, and often has live music on the weekends. Joe’s has also been known to host a Surf Camp Beer Pong Tournament every few weeks. An authentic Rock N Roll Bar playing both classics and pop music during the week, with pool tables and pinball. Tell the owner/barman André you’re from Surfivor and ask him for info on what else is going on late night during your stay.

The Beach Bar – P’n Areia

The closest bar to our camp is located on the beach. This is a great option for sundown beers with a stunning view. They’ve also been known to host impromptu dance parties that last until sunrise.

Al Medina

A classy Moroccan style bar with good Tapas, great Sangria and Shisha available. Very comfortable and a nice place to stop for pre-dinner drinks or post dinner dessert. Al Medina also hosts belly dancers monthly. Fabina and her staff are always friendly and happy to help if you wan’t any recommendations for other places to eat or drink.

We hope to see you this year, so set your Google Flight Tracker for Porto now! Email us if you have any questions, or would like to make your reservation directly.
